The Olympic Games represent unity. Olympic athletes from around the world represent varied ethnic and social backgrounds. These talented men and women come from around the world to compete. In doing so, they remind us of our similarities, not our differences.
They remind us that we all feel the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. And perhaps most importantly, they show us what human beings are capable of at the peak of their abilities.
Forough Abbasi is one such athlete. Abbasi, a 24 year-old alpine skier from Iran, represented her country at this year’s Olympic games. But she was not only representing her nation. Abbasi was also representing her gender.
